Pacific cyclones with wind speeds in excess of 140 mph have been recorded around the Hawai'ian islands, which significantly extends the potential range of their travels, given that they were unlikely to have made much headway against the storm. Good thing they had a mighty sailin' man and a skipper brave and sure or they wouldn't have made it ashore anywhere. lol
