Hey, is it because my wife uses 480 words to describe something that I could with five words, or do I have ADHD+? Whatever it is, it infuriates her when she can see I'm holding my breath whilst waiting to finish her sentence and save five minutes.

Question: Please explain the meme that appears to show (German ?) soldiers crossing a river/stream by walking on wooden planks that are resting on the shoulders of other soldiers, who are neck-deep in water.

Daniel Mark Zamoyski's avatar

Thanks for your response.

Yes, its a good teamwork meme.

But as someone who is of Polish descent, and with the helmets quite obviously being WW2 German, that image for me (and probably for millions of other Polish Americans, and other ethnicities as well) was very disconcerting.

It looks like it may well have been from a German Wehrmacht training manual !

The Poles fought extremely bravely in WW2, despite Great Britain and France NOT honouring their war-invasion-support treaties in Sept 1939:

- Polish pilots out-performed the RAF pilots in the Battle of Britain;

- First mine-sweeper, used in North Africa, was invented by a Pole;

- Polish batallion won the battle for Monte Cassino, Italy, after the Brits and Americans failed to oust the Germans;

- Auschwitz (a totally German word) is sadly often described as a “Polish concentration/death camp”, just because (some uninformed) people ‘forget’ that Poland was fully occupied by Germany and the Soviets/Russians during all of WW2, and Germany had (illegally) annexed half of Poland, so Poland had ceased to exist. Auschwitz should Always be referred to as the German concentration/death camp in WW2 Occupied Poland;

- the treachery of the Yalta Agreement put post-WW2 Poland under Stalin’s murderous rule;

- at the Allies Victory Parade in London in 1946, the Polish veterans were not allowed to join it, due to pressure from Stalin;

- Polish pilots, soldiers and sailors gave their lives to help the Allies beat Germany (remember that the nazis were a political party, not a country …), so they decisively helped win “The War”, but LOST their own country in the end;

- Poland lost 20% of its pre-WW2 population due to German (not nazi !) and Soviet/Russian aggression; 3 million ethnic Poles and 3 million ethnic Jews.

So, perhaps you might consider removing that obviously-German image from your otherwise Splendid memes.

They were plenty of peaceful overtures to Poland by Germany, in spite of them murdering the Germans of Danzig and all northwestern Prussia that was awarded to Poland after World War I.

Very similar to what Western Ukraine was doing to eastern Ukrainians.

Poland was in the wrong finally Germany had enough. There’s a lot of history. We don’t know that went on before the outbreak of the war.

Both my grandfathers are from Poland and fought and World War I

Raphael's avatar

Please, please give me a break. No, they weren’t German sympathizers that’s why they fought in World War I also one of my relatives was Prime Minister of Poland in 1904,

At the end of the day, the war was fought for reasons we barely comprehend by people we never even heard of

And I do take offense of the way the German people were treated, and I have a good idea the people that propagated that hatred

The igigi they were purposely made for the purpose they’re doing and they will continue to do.

Please, Please, Don’t try to play the ‘bad Poland’ card, as that is only a Joker card.

- Poland did an attempted appeasement with germany/hitler by agreeing to take that tiny bit of the Czech Republic in exchange for whatever hitler wanted. And hitler always planned to take all of Europe anyway, so he didn’t care who temporarily controlled any small part of it. And Poland later regretted that ‘greedy appeasement’ .

- So, ‘your grandparents were from Poland’, eh? I am willing to bet that they were VolkeDeutsche, which means ‘ethnic Germans living in Poland, sometimes for generations’. These germany-sympathisers numbered at least 200,000 before WA2 started, and they acted as willing spies for hitler, creating lists of Polish leaders to be rounded up (and killed, after torturing for intelligence info) after the german invasion of Sept 1939. These traitors also made lists and locations of Jews to be rounded up, stored weapons and food, fuel, munitions to be used by the invading Wehrmacht. They were Polish citizens who were Treacherous Traitors, mostly in western Poland at that time.

- So, Please do not attempt to be an apologist for brutal german WW2 AGGRESSION !

All wars have ultimately been 'bankers wars', the soldiers in all have been repeatedly lied to about the true purposes.

Nobody 'wins' a war. Everyone loses.

There's no real 'good' and 'bad' guys. It's just all a bunch of legalized murder.

I served in Desert Storm and know better than most 'why' we were over there and it was not for the protection of our country, there were no 'WMD's, etc. etc. I got out as soon as my time came, and I hope my son never serves. So I too, was a 'bad' guy.

My 2 sense.

Daniel Mark Zamoyski's avatar

Thanks for this further detail.

Yes, the “Money Markets” (who quickly eliminated conservative Liz Truss, and slipped in their preferred ‘financial wizard’ Sunak, to help divide and destroye the UK’s Tory Party) have been behind (probably) all of the wars over recent centuries.

I’m afraid that I can’t agree that there “are no good guys or bad guys”. No one can justfiably think that the Poles in WW2 were generally Bad Guys (though there are sociopaths in Every country).

When I served in Vietnam (1969-70), it wasn’t the South Vietnamese invading North Vietnam.

And WW2 Poland didn’t invade Germany or Russia.

There are some absolutes, which is why I object to that meme.

I love the vast majority of your incredible memes; that one was the first one that I decided that I needed to comment on.

Yes, the endless cycles of war, feeding the blobal military-industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about needs to be stopped.

Let’s hope that the Trump Administration will be able to do some Useful & Effective Stopping !

Nothing to explain - just a cool picture of a team of soldiers working together so I threw it in there. If you can think of a caption, let that be it.

Yep - this picture is stirring up some thoughts, got people thinking…

Mission accomplished. :)

Daniel Mark Zamoyski's avatar

Of course there were good Germans. But more people should read “Hitler’s Willing Accomplices”, and “The Forgotten Holocaust”.

It is sad to note that the vast majority of German citizens, including the pervasive Hitler Youth (male abd female), were very supportive of the aggressive German war machine, the enforced foreign slave labourers, their improved standard of living …. until Germany started to lose the War, that is.

So, we ultimately had modern-day German Chancellor Merkel declaring at the 2019 D-Day Landing Commemorations event in Normandy: “ Thank you, Allied countries, for saving us from those Nazis”. (Quotation is a total fact, easily verified.)

Wow, talk about gross Hypocrisy !!!

So, that type of historical revisionism is why I take exception to a drawing of brutal, Blitzkrieg German soldiers being used as an example of “teamwork”.

And the Nuremburg War Trials were very inadequate; the Soviet/Russian crimes against Poland were NEVER tried; and Germany has never paid proper war reparations to Poland, though Germany has paid Billions to other countries.

So, Context Is Important; and silence usually is interpreted as assent. So, I speak out when I can.

teamwork is still teamwork.

everything under the sun can be used for both good or evil.

Thanks for commenting!

Hmmm. In my opinion, Genocide Teamwork is not something to which anyone should allude.

Are you therefore saying that Hamas Genocide Teamwork is “OK” ?!?!

There are many other worthy Teamwork memes that could be used instead, I reckon.
