Our high school parking lot had gun racks and rifles during hunting season.
Here’s a shortened version of a verifiably true story: Peninsula High School, Gig Harbor, WA, 1968 or 69. I think it was my junior year. A whole-school assembly in the gym, pep rally or something like that, was interrupted by the principal who took the stage and began chastising the student body for some minor infractions, as he was somewhat renowned for doing. Midway through his ranting one of the more nerdy students, wearing his black horn-rimmed glasses, stood up and yelled something like “we can’t take this anymore” and produced a pistol and shot the principal who dropped to the floor and played dead. After a few seconds principal stood back up laughed. They used the starting pistol for track meets. Imagine that stunt pulled today.
I once volunteered to wear the Smokey Bear suit for Billy Barker Days in July (so f-ing hot in that thing). I can totally relate to that Mickey Mouse. Kids were running up to me and kicking me, even when I was handing out candy. I do recall Smokey dropping a few F bombs that day, though he did refrain from retaliatory boots in the ass.
All of your posts are great Dog, but the Nostalgia are the best! As a kid growing up in the 70’s I can still remember vividly being hot boxed in the family car on road trips by parents and grandparents smoking cigarettes endlessly lol. We survived. I was always sent across the street to buy smokes for my parents, the lady at the till always knew what I was there for and had two packs ready for me. Times were much simpler. Playing outside all day, only coming home to eat and then when the streetlights came on. There was no helicopter parents in those days!
Keep up the great posts, they brighten up the day in this now bleak “brave new world”.
Re holding Mom’s cigarette while she zipped my coat. My mom had that same leather jacket. Oh, the memories. I remember her writing a note for me to take to the store so that I could buy a pack of cigarettes for her.
As far as the pyramid of bad ingredients goes I’ve had them all. Luckily I’m still here and able to appreciate your offering. We do lose track and isolate ourselves to survive in the present but as I look at the photos, that capture a moment in each participant’s time. I see a ‘present perfect continuous’ we call nostalgia.
I don't remember giving you permission to hack my computer! The first picture is my sister and I, except it was a red Fairlane wagon with Ohio plates, everything else could have been ripped out of our family album. You really nailed it for me.
Funny, this time the thought of days like these never returning doesn't seem as permanent as it did a week ago.
It makes my day lately when I see a fresh Nostalgia post has dropped from the dog. I just forwarded the one about part time jobs, friends, used cars and lessons learned to one of my teenage boys who's doing that right now. Thanks.
Now, WTF is up with the alien and giantess pics!?!
Thanks for the compliments, always good to hear when people tell me things like that. Nostalgia is my second most popular posts next to my Truth Bombs…
Regarding alien and giant pix - well, they’re old. LOL And can’t hurt to sprinkle in some old truth pix into my nostalgia too, right? Giants and old tech exist, and it’s being covered up bigly. People need to know how fake our mainstream history is…
No regrets. Our mistakes shaped who we become, for better or worse, sall good. Let that ‘shame’ transform you into someone who will never do it again, and inform others how harmful it is, etc. :)
Love it
60’s 70’s my era’s the best !

Yep, ‘they’ have removed all the fun. Too many rules and laws. Comedians can’t even tell jokes. We need to get that back.
I rode in the back of pickups without shells over them. Also, I love Captain Kangaroo.
“Loved”

Yes, my 3 brothers n I rode in the bed of an old 60’s ford pick up! Drank from the garden hose, oh the horror! Truly miss it more now!

You got it man - these nostalgia posts are my most popular next to my bread & butter 'truth bombs'..
Thanks for sharing, and no worries, I plan on keeping this one going as long as I can find the memories...
If I told you I’d have to hunt you down and kill you, soo…
Love them all but my favorite is girls and guns. But who doesn’t like that combo. But all are great thanks
Memories come flooding back when I saw the rear seat of a station wagon.
How about finding photos of the coal man, shinny man, and the bread man
Mr. Green jeans is the reason I wanted to grow vegetables!😀
Hee Haw and Captain Kangaroo !! Yesss

I remember doing that same note
God I loved Hee Haw!

I was a smoker mom…..unfortunately 🤦♀️ I’m ashamed of myself!
My mom smoked while I was in the womb. No bad effects as far as I can tell...
